Introduction:

Hello everyone! I’m Sebastian and I’m happy to share my final report for the WPCredits course.

This report summarizes my contributions to the Polyglots team, the challenges I faced, and the skills I gained. I hope my experience inspires others to contribute to open source projects and work with WordPress.

Teams and Projects I Contributed To

I contributed and worked with the Polyglots team to translate the elementor plugin strings from English to Spanish (Costa Rica).

I focused my project on translating strings for the elementor plugin where I was able to translate multiple Strings from English to Spanish making sure they were correctly translated and anyone could read it properly.

Learning Resources

I started by reading the WordPress Guide provided by my university and handbook to learn how could I start translating in WordPress.

My mentor, Dayana Vindas, guided me through the process of setting up my project and showed me tricks to begin.

Challenges and solutions

Challenge 1: One of my biggest challenges was understanding how to start and where to do the translations for my project.

Thanks to my mentor, I was able to clarify my doubts and she helped me find plugins I could work with.

Challenge 2: Once I finished my translations and they were approved, I realized I didn’t know how to confirm them.
Luckily, I had classmates I could rely on, and we discovered we could use the website’s filters to view my translations.

Key takeaways from the WPCredits course

With the WPCredits course, I learned the value of collaboration within a community as vast as WordPress.
The WPCredits course provided me with a fantastic experience developing this blog, and I learned the importance of developing communication skills within a community.

New skills

Con el desarrollo de este proyecto aprendí muchas cosas, especialmente el funcionamiento que tiene wordpress, como funciona la comunidad, los valores de la misma, tambien tuve la oportunidad de ver los cursos y pude conseguir desarrollar mi primera página usando WordPress.

Personal reflections and next steps

Having the opportunity to contribute to the WordPress community was an extremely rewarding experience where I felt supported at all times.
Thanks to this positive experience, I hope to continue working and being part of this great community.
